IAP in NSW //

In New South Wales IAP Applications are managed by the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA).

IAP Applications in NSW

  • Higher Mass Limits (HML)

The IAP is being used to support the expansion of Higher Mass Limits (HML) access in NSW. HML provides a significant increase in the productivity of road freight transport vehicles - with payload increases of between 7% and 13% per vehicle for each journey operating at HML - without increasing the physical dimensions of eligible vehicles.

  • NSW Road Train Modernisation Program

B-Triple and AB-Triple combinations can now obtain access to approved Road Train routes in Western NSW as part of the NSW Government’s Road Train Modernisation Program.

  • NSW Quad Axle Semi-Trailer Pilot Scheme

The  pilot allows for the operation of semi-trailers with quad axle groups and permits the transportation of fully loaded 40' freight containers - now recognised as the international standard.

  • Mobile Crane Concessional Benefit Scheme

The Mobile Crane Concessional Benefit Scheme (MCCBS) allows mobile cranes with a width-dimension of between 2.5 and 2.9 metres to benefit from improved access arrangements throughout Sydney, Newcastle, Gosford and Wollongong.

  • Performance Based Standards (PBS) vehicles

Vehicle monitoring using the IAP may be a condition of access for some PBS vehicle types.
